Dogs Available for adoption at MCAHS

Dog Adoption at Morrison County Animal Humane Society

Morrison County Animal Humane Society is home to dogs of all ages, sizes, and personalities. Our canine residents enjoy spacious kennels, cozy bedding, toys, treats, and daily enrichment from our staff and volunteers.
Whether you’re looking for an energetic adventure buddy, a laid‑back couch companion, or a confident, independent dog, our adoption counselors are here to help you find the right match. We encourage you to meet several dogs during your appointment. New dogs arrive regularly, so check back often if you don’t find the perfect fit right away.

✨ What’s Included with Dog Adoption
All MCAHS dog adoptions include:
  • Spay/Neuter surgery
  • Age‑appropriate vaccinations
  • Microchip
  • Flea & tick preventatives, if needed
Important Notes:
  • If a dog still needs to be spayed/neutered, you will be required to bring them back to the shelter on their scheduled surgery date.
  • All dogs must be at least 12 weeks old before they can leave the shelter.

📋 The Adoption Process
1. Fill Out the Adoption Paperwork: Applications start by completing an adoption application. QR codes are available at the front desk and throughout the adoption areas. Submitting an application does not obligate you to adopt — it simply begins the conversation and helps us guide you toward a successful match.
2. Wait for Contact From MCAHS: A staff member will reach out to schedule your adoption appointment.
3. Your Appointment: Please bring a dog leash and collar with you.

🐾 Before you arrive:  View our adoptable dogs online, and fill out the adoption application for any dog you’re interested in. Once your application is submitted, a staff member will contact you to set up an appointment.
This does not mean you cannot visit the shelter. You are always welcome to stop in, ask questions, and learn more about our available animals. Staff will assist you with any dog you’d like to meet outside of the kennel area.

🐾 Meet & Greet

Once your application is completed, a staff member will help you interact with the dogs you’re interested in.
For safety and to reduce stress for our dogs, We do not allow the public into the dog runs. We will conduct our meet and greet in the court yard if weather permits otherwise we will do it in the building.
  • Some dogs may only need one meeting; others may benefit from multiple visits.
  • If you have children at home, we recommend that adults meet the dog first.
  • Dog‑to‑dog meet‑and‑greets are required when introducing a second (or third) dog into the home.
    • Humans meet first
    • Dogs meet second
    • Dog to Dog Meet‑and‑greets are typically done outside and at staff discretion
Our goal is always a safe, thoughtful, and successful match.
📝 Finalizing the Adoption
  • You must be 18 years or older to adopt.
  • With enough time, the entire process can be completed in one visit.
  • Adoption includes:
    • Signing the adoption contract
    • Reviewing medical information
    • Registering the microchip
    • Completing payment (cash, card, or check)
Please plan for at least 1.5 hours for the meet‑and‑greet and adoption process.
Dogs must go home at the time of adoption, unless otherwise discussed with staff.
We also offer MCAHS clothing and merchandise for purchase.
💛 Our Commitment to Successful Adoptions: MCAHS may request additional information or steps to ensure a pet is the right match for your home. We reserve the right to deny an adoption for any reason.
We work hard to match people and pets and want every adoption to succeed. We’re always happy to offer tips, guidance, and support as your new companion adjusts. Patience, consistency, and time are key as your dog learns their new home, family, and routine.
